DIN985 Hex Thin Nuts Class 4.8 Zinc Manufacture may also be used as jam nuts, threaded over another nut to keep it in place. These hex thin nuts are about half the height of standard nylon-insert locknuts. DIN985 Hex Thin Nuts do not readily loosen when placed on bolts. This makes them useful for holding wheels onto axles, or in automotive engines where machine vibration would otherwise loosen the fastener.  

 

These DIN985 Hex Thin Nuts have a nylon insert for adding security to keep nut in place that grips the bolt to resist loosening without damaging threads. They're reusable, but their holding power lessens with each use. Nylon Insert Lock Nuts are used where heavy vibration is found and when a tight frictional fit is needed. This nut must be installed and removed with hand tools.DIN985 Hex Thin Nuts can also be used in light duty low-clearance applications or jam one against a hex nut to hold it in place.

DIN985 Hex Thin Nuts Class 4.8 Zinc Manufacture is made from Zinc coating .The zinc layer physically isolates iron from oxygen and water, which are required for rusting. There is a dense zinc oxide film on the zinc layer, and zinc oxide is hardly soluble in water, thus protecting the iron from rust.  Moreover, the zinc layer has a special metal structure and is a very hard coating with excellent resistance to damage.

Use these hexagonal nuts with bolts and washers of the same material, finish, and grade. The nylon ring inside the nut creates rotational resistance when displaced by a mating male threaded fastener, thus preventing loosening. The nylon insert also helps resist vibration and adds extra corrosion resistance. They're reusable, but their holding power lessens with each use. About half the strength of medium-strength steel locknuts, they're for light duty fastening applications, such as securing access panels. This nut must be installed and removed with hand tools.
